Mother's Day Weekend and a Big Surprise
Where better to meet up with family than in beautiful Santa Cruz?
Here is what went down on Mother's Day weekend 😊
Thursday, May 10th:
I drove down to Santa Cruz after my class on Thursday, and arrived around 6:45 PM to an empty house. Soon after everyone else arrived and we said our hellos and exchanged our gifts. Then mom and Juan attempted to take a selfie of the group for five minutes before we decided to just call it good. Sam and I went to get Japanese food, and Shannon and Carl joined us soon after. After dinner, we relaxed and watched some TV before everyone went to bed (around 9:30ish).

I slept awfully this night. I
fell asleep at 10:30 because my nose was so stuffed that I couldn't breathe,
but I also had a really bad sore throat, so I decided to fall asleep sitting up
(I slept downstairs on the couch). However, I woke up around 3:00 AM because
there was so much pressure in my face that I was too uncomfortable to sleep.
(Also sidenote, it seemed that everyone in the house was awake around 4:00 AM,
but for different reasons, and I remember thinking that's such a weird time to
be awake, but alas 5 people in the same house shared the feeling of consciousness).
Anyways, I fell back asleep at 4:30ish, only to be woken up by mom at 5:45
because she thought Grandma and Grandpa would be waking up soon (they didn't
wake up until 7:30), so then I was awake from 5:45 am until 7:30 am before
taking another 2 hour nap. I know this is all very interesting to you, but this
is how I knew that I was, in fact, pretty sick.

Friday, May 11th:
Okay, so after the whole sleeping fiasco, I decided to chill out for the entire morning (especially because I felt awful). I was lying on the couch all morning, while people did they're own thing to relax. Carl and I ran some errands around Capitola, while listening to Santana and the Grateful Dead. Then it was time for the big surprise... Taylor Swift!!! Yes, you read that right. I was surprised to go to the Taylor Swift concert with Larry, Sam, and Sam's friend, Ruby. I'm not gonna lie, I was super stoked at first because I wasn't a huge fan of her new music, but let me tell you that woman knows how to put on a show. This was the third time I've seen her live, and every time her shows get better and better (also she played a lot of throwbacks, which I somehow remembered all the words to). It was so fun, and even though I felt kind of sick and had to blow my nose after every other song, I am very glad that I went.💕 Also, it is very important to note that before the show we went to VeggieGrill, which is a vegan burger chain (there's a location in Seattle for all you Washingtonians), and I finally got to try the Beyond Meat Sausage. It was SO GOOD. Granted, I haven't had meat in over 3 years, but it tasted very authentic to me (also Beyond Meat is an amazing company that really has the alternative meat products down! Check them out here).

Saturday, May 12th:
I woke up feeling worse today than I did yesterday, but alas the day must go on. I was originally supposed to join my mom, Shannon, and her friends for the Skyline to Sea trail hike (and I have people who can vouch that I was super excited to participate in the hike), however given my state of health, I decided it would be best to rest and recover before going back to school. Instead of a hike, I got to spend some time with my Grandparents, and we took a nice walk around downtown Capitola, as Grandma looked for gift to get her great-grandchildren. Then we went back to the house, and (surprise surprise) just kicked back and spent some time together. We left the house around 2PM drive out to Big Basin Park and get the picnic ready, but first we tooled around along the coast and a bit of the park. The picnic was fantastic, we had sandwiches, chips and guac, fruit, cheese... yum yum yum. Then we all came back to the Capitola house to eat cupcakes and talk.

Sunday, May 13th:
Today was spent packing up, going to brunch at Cara's, and driving home. It was time spent with family, and it reminded me how grateful I am for my mom. It's easy to nitpick the small things, but overall there is no one else in this world that I would want as my mom, and I am so thankful for everything she has done for me in my life. My mom deserves nothing but the best, so here is a picture of us from a while back, but I like it because we look very happy, and it's very us.
