A Beautiful Memorial Day Weekend Get Away

What better than a mini-roadtrip, time spent at the beach and exploring, and getting to hang with family and friends for a weekend? That's right. This weekend was awesome!

Thursday, May 24:
Kate and I left SLO after class and made our way down to San Diego for our four day weekend :) The trip was filled with Taylor Swift, a lot of singing, and a stop at a fancy gas station in the LA area. We arrived in Coronado at 10:30pm and spent the next three hours talking with Carl.

Friday, May 25:
Kate and I got 9 hours of sleep... COMBINED. However, that wasn't going to stop us from exploring the island. In the early morning, Carl and I drove out to Poway to drop off our car to get the windows tinted before he had to go to work. Kate and my first full day in Coronado was spent walking all along the main street (Orange Street) to check out the boutiques, admire the Hotel del Coronado, and get carded while buying Rated R movie tickets. We had some of the best açai we've ever had and followed that up with some really good enchiladas (and queso) at Miguels. Surprisingly, Kate really enjoyed the queso, as she" hasn't had good queso since leaving Texas," so I'm glad it met up to her standards. We also got to live out being kids in a candy store as we stocked up on the goods for DeadPool. We also got to lie by the pool and soak up some sun while taking a little nap. We went back to the apartment and met up with Carl, where we all chilled and I took a nap (haha). Then we went to the Village Theater and sat in a theater room that fit 20 people!!! Also, DeadPool 2 was so good 10/10 recommend!

Saturday, May 26:

Farmer's Market Day!!! Whenever we visit Carl while he's working in Coronado, we've gone to the Little Italy Farmer's Market on Saturdays. It's one of my favorite traditions because it's followed up with lunch at NaPizza, a very delicious and fresh pizza place with great salads! So, we drove downtown and walked to the street where the Farmer's Market usually is, but there were no booths! We pondered why that would be and decided it was due to Memorial Day weekend, so we decided to just go to NaPizza and call it a day. Funny enough, as soon as we walked down the street towards NaPizza, we saw that there were many people walking in the middle of the road. The Farmer's Market had moved down a street! We ate at NaPizza and then tooled around the Farmer's Market trying fresh fruit and hummus, and Kate got to try some Coffee Cheesecake. We also bought some Cocoroons, and vegan cookies! We then drove out to Poway to pick up the car and drove straight to Costco because Carl was nice enough to buy us some food for the remainder of the quarter. After our outing we sat in the living room for a bit to relax and re-energize. Carl suggested that Kate and I walk to L. Frank Baum's house (the author of the Wizard of Oz), which is just down the street from the Hotel del Coronado. We decided on our mini-adventure to look at all the beautiful mansions and had small photo shoots in front of them haha. We then went out to dinner and came back and hung out before going to bed.

Walking to the Farmer's Market!

Sunday, May 27:
We hiked along the cliffs and it was beautiful! The sun was shining, it wasn't extremely windy meaning that the temperature was very pleasant, and we got to look out over the Pacific Ocean. It was such a fun way to be outside and breathe fresh air. After hiking along the cliffs, we went to Phil's for lunch, and when we came back Kate and I went and lied by the pool. Sadly, we got pretty sunburned because neither of us thought the sun was strong that day and didn't realize how long we'd be at the pool (which can happen when you fall asleep... whoops); however, it was nice to get some sun. After coming back to the apartment and realizing how red we were, I mentioned to Carl that we hadn't gone recliner shopping yet, so we packed up and headed over to Macy's and tested multiple recliners until Carl "found the one." We then drove to Old Town and tooled around the eclectic shops and walked through San Diego's first courthouse (Spoiler Alert: it's very small). We had dinner at Old Town Mexican Cafe and it was delicious! After dinner we came back to the house and hung out.

I really don't know what is going on in this picture haha

Oooh, living on the edge (literally hahah)

At some points the cliffs aren't safe enough to walk on so we had to walk along the road

He's either pointing at a High School or a Pelican

Swarming with bees!

It matches!

Kate really enjoyed recliner shopping

Carl texting mom that he found "the one" haha

Camera ready

We wanted to watch the sunset... but there was a megacloud that ruined it

Don't you love when your face matches the flowers? 🤣

Monday, May 28:
Kate and I packed up all of our stuff and drove back to SLO, singing, talking, and looking at the beautiful sites on our drive back.

This was such a fun trip and I'm so happy Kate got to see Coronado and San Diego 😊 I'm also very glad to have spent some time with Carl, as I won't see him until my birthday this year. No fighting, no tears, and no bad moods... I think that's a very successful mini-vacay!
