GRAND CANYON

Monday, November 20th:

"Today is the day we officially said goodbye to the boys... before heading to the GRAND CANYON!" Heck yeah you read that right; the Grand Canyon. Some say it's the grandest of canyons, or they don't... who knows, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Basically, we woke up to the beautiful sights of Zion for the last time, which was more emotional than I had assumed. We also packed up our stuff a lot faster than any of assumed and left our campsite an hour after waking up (this includes eating breakfast and getting ready). Alas, I do believe we were very spoiled by Zion because our drive to the Grand Canyon, while very beautiful and rocky, did not impress us much. Further, there was rarely any service on the road, so we couldn't jam out to hits from the 2000s/HSM... but fret not, we survived (I know, truly a millennial problem)!

We stopped at Glen Canyon because Kat is very passionate about rivers/water, and really wanted to see the Dam. She later told me that when it breaks it'll take out the Hoover Dam (which is really far away!!!).

After six hour of driving, we finally started catching some glimpses of the Grand Canyon, and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! You never realize how small you are until you stand near such an immense natural wonder that just... wow.

One of the bummers (and interesting things) about the Grand Canyon is that it is such a touristy area. It has hotels, a train, many (many) gift shops and information centers, cafes, and restaurants that Zion doesn't have. This place was packed! But I guess that is to be expected of such a famous landmark. I'm glad people appreciate the wonder of the Grand Canyon.

The three of us were pretty tired from our hikes in Zion and driving all day that we went to the General Store (which had free wifi, and some of the only service in our part of the camp) to buy firewood, and then went and set up our campsite in the dark before making dinner and passing out.

The next morning Kat and I set up our hammocks and hungout in the trees for a couple hours talking and resting, which Kate sat in the sun trying to warm up. Our plan for the day was to take an easy walk around the rim of the Canyon, and just as we were about to leave our site, an older man came up to our site looking for some gas, and Kat ended up talking to him for over two hours!!! While he was telling us stories of his youth, I realized that he was an older version of Kat, which is why they ended up talking for so long (haha).

The Grand Canyon is beautiful and has some of the most incredible sunsets I have ever seen. We walked, looked at different knickknacks in some gift shops, and (my personal favorite) rode the shuttle around the rim after our hike, where we not only witnessed an insanely pink and purple sunset, but also got to see more of the rim than we had.

We slept good that night, even though it got down to 17*F. By this time in our trip, we started to feel very greasy and were kind of excited to set foot in California again, which was perfect because we had one more stop on our epic camping-road-trip-extravaganza!

note: these pictures were taken by Kat, Kate, and me, and they're not in order... again
