26,480 and a Mini Life Update
Hi, it's been a while. Almost 5 months to be exact. I've done a lot in the last five months, but lacked the motivation to share it. So here is my mini life update:
I went home for the summer and worked for Kitsap County Public Works in the Stormwater Division. The job was great. I got to be outside, work with amazing people, and understand the scientists' perspective on environmental conditions. I loved it. I did some fun things this summer, as well. Kate, mom, and I went and saw Dead and Company at the Gorge Amphitheater, and it was such an awesome show (especially for people watching). I went to San Diego for my birthday with mom and Taylor (Carl is down there for work right now), and we had a fantastic time. Oh yeah, I turned 21, but honestly it's just another birthday to me. I got some awesome books for my birthday, some of which I've read, some of which are still waiting for me. I attended Capitol Hill Block Party, a 3-day music festival in Capitol Hill, with my friends and got to see some rad bands. Mom and I went to Portland for a day, and spent most of our money at Powell's Books (not the worst way to spend $$$ if you ask me haha). I went to Maui with my family for a week and enjoyed reading books and relaxing, as well as riding bikes down Haleakala, which was fun (after we weren't on a cliff). I got to spend some quality time with friends and family, and let myself relax from last school year, but honestly, summer went by way too quickly.
Now I am back at school. I've started my 3rd year as an Environmental Engineering major. I have a lighter class load, which I needed more than I thought, and am involved in some clubs. I am an officer in the Society for Environmental Engineers (SENVE), where I am planning a part of the Pacific Southwest Conference, and making sure the environmental competition team has everything they need. I am active in the Engineering Ambassadors, and will be giving my second tour of the College of Engineering this Friday. I am also a part of the Ethical Eating Club, and getting it back on its feet. Oh yeah! I am also doing research again for a Graduate Student (U.S. Department of Energy funded Algael Research), which I am loving. Life is good.
Now you might be wondering about the 26,480? Well my first real weekend back in San Luis Obsipo (SLO), Kat and I did the Tri-Tip Challenge. This is a local challenge where one hikes Bishop's Peak, Madoona Peak, and the "P". I ended the day with 26,480 steps. My legs felt pretty tired the next day (especially given that I ran and went on a different hike the day before doing the challenge).
So yeah, life is good. I am back in a routine for school, and Fluid Dynamics is kicking my butt. Hopefully I will be better about going on adventures and sharing them with you. Hope you're doing well and thank you for reading!
