Mom's Visit

For those of you who don't know, mom's birthday is coming up (April 11th), and I wanted to give her a birthday present she would really enjoy. Here's the thing, our family has everything. There is not a single thing that someone in our family needs that they wouldn't just buy themselves. So, I thought about what mom would want most... and then realized I was the answer! I talked to Carl and he helped me book her flight, and we flew her down to SLO for one week as her birthday present :)

It was such a great trip filled with lots of walking, adventuring, eating, and movie watching. Most importantly we got to spend some quality time together, and since we only get to see each other every six months, the time spent together was appreciated.

Without further ado, I present you the pictures of this wonderful trip 😁

These first few pictures are from Friday morning (after the boys left) before mom flew in. I couldn't go back to sleep and decided to take a walk out to the pier instead. Mom wouldn't land in San Jose until 1:30 pm, so after walking around and relaxing, Kate and I went to San Jose and tooled around there.

6 am in Capitola, CA.

I sat on the pier and wrote in my journal as the sun rose. Very relaxing. 10/10 recommend.

Our first day was spent in Santa Cruz. We stopped by Staff of Life and picked up the juiciest mangoes I have had in a long time. Then we went to sushi with Shannon, Sam, and Larry, as well as other family friends. The next day we drove down to SLO, where we did a grocery shop and saw Game Night at the movies! (Very funny movie, highly recommend).

The following day, mom and I hiked Bishop's Peak in record time!! We also met some Germans at the summit. Mom accidentally spilled water on her shirt, as she was trying to take a drink of water, I'm sure that felt very refreshing 😄

Tired and sweaty, but happy campers

On our way down! Much easier than climbing up haha

The following day I had class from 8am-4:30pm. But, for dinner we went out to Big Sky Cafe and met with friends from Santa Cruz, who's daughter is interested (possibly) in attending Cal Poly. It was delicious, and Kate and I got to answer some fun questions.

On Wednesday, mom and I walked out to Architecture Graveyard. It was a nice walk with lots of incline. The trail to Arch Graveyard is almost a mile long, and once we were out there we both realized we really needed to use the restroom, however there were no toilets out there so we had to hurry back. Needless to say we got our cardio in for that day haha. We were also getting kind of hungry, and I suggested we drive out to Morro Bay because there is this really good vegan restaurant called Shine Cafe that I hadn't tried yet. Mom got a delicious (and gigantic) salad, and I got the Chickn Tacos. It was sososososososo good. After eating, we tooled around the area and checked out various Thrift- and Second-hand stores. Then mom suggested we go to the movies (again!!) and watch Black Panther (because neither of us had seen it yet... whoops). The movie was fantastic, as most of you know. If not, you should really watch it.

LOOK AT THESE! YA. ALL VEGAN

Looks pretty real to me (and tastes delicious).

This salad was the size of my head.

I forgot to mention, we went to Linnaea's, a coffee shop downtown with the best vegan cake and cookies. Pictured: Raspberry Coconut Cake yumm

Thursday morning I gave my first official tour as a College of Engineering Ambassador (with other Ambassadors, of course), and mom tagged along and watched me present. Then I had class from 12-4:30, while mom got some work done. When I came back I had to do a little bit of homework, so mom took that time to go chill by the pool and enjoy the California sun. When she came back, we went to the Farmer's Market with Kate and her mom (and ate the juiciest and sweetest and bestestest strawberries ever).

Look how beautiful

Eatin' ears of corn at Farmers!

Sadly this trip had to come to an end 🙁 I drove mom to the airport on Friday morning, where she enjoyed a luxurious first-class seat back home (not my doing... don't have that much money haha).

It truly was so much fun to have her in SLO for the week, and I cannot wait to see her in June (and have her make me yummy food again hahaha).

I love you mom! Happy birthday 💛
